While summarizing and analyzing the accumulator research results of domestic and foreign counterparts, combined with my own theoretical research and practical experience, I predict the main development direction of accumulator research in the future as follows.

● In order to meet the purpose of technical application, research on structural improvement will continue to develop. It mainly includes the following two aspects:

a.Take the bladder gas accumulator as the research object, and make corresponding improvements according to the needs of the actual system to ensure that the system performance can be improved to the greatest extent;

b.Take the spring type or heavy hammer type accumulator as the object, and improve it from the perspective of economic benefits on the premise of meeting the system requirements. Research on structural improvement can meet the needs of some special systems without requiring too much work, so it will continue to be valued by engineering technology researchers.

● With the improvement of engineering performance requirements for hydraulic systems, the research on accumulator absorbing hydraulic shock, eliminating high-frequency pulsation and recovering energy has become the focus and continues to deepen. Main tasks include:

a. With the emergence of large-scale hydraulic systems, develop corresponding large-scale accumulators or accumulators with auxiliary equipment to absorb hydraulic shocks;

b. With the emergence of high-frequency oscillation systems, develop accumulators that can absorb high-frequency oscillation waves to reduce the harm of high-frequency oscillations to the system;

c.With the concept of green energy saving gaining more attention in practical applications, continue to study energy saving technologies for accumulators for different systems.

● The basic theoretical research on accumulator will be paid attention to. The existing basic theory of accumulator is too old, so it is urgent to perfect the basic theory of accumulator, especially to sum up the accurate and comprehensive formula of accumulator. This is a pioneering work.

● Research on intelligent accumulators will be carried out step by step. The development and use of new hydraulic components make the hydraulic system have the advantages of high pressure, high speed, and high precision. Simply improving the accumulator on the basis of inheriting the structure of the existing accumulator will not meet the requirements. Moreover, due to the uncertainty of system operating conditions and its complex nonlinearity, the functions of accumulators cannot be strictly separated. This requires that during the working process of the system, the parameters of the accumulator can be adjusted in real time, and its different functions can be used to meet the needs of the system. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an accumulator capable of real-time monitoring of system parameter changes, real-time processing, and real-time instruction to adjust various parameters of the accumulator, so as to meet the requirements of these complex systems.

● In terms of maintenance, new theories and methods will be gradually applied to the diagnosis, monitoring and maintenance of accumulators. The accumulator and hydraulic system are mechanical, electrical and hydraulic integrated systems with complex structures, which have the characteristics of mechanical-hydraulic coupling, time-varying and nonlinear. Faults occur with a certain degree of randomness. The diversity of faults, the complexity of causality, and the dependence of fault diagnosis on the experience of domain experts are important characteristics of hydraulic faults. Intelligent diagnosis systems are increasingly showing their importance and irreplaceability. With the continuous development of modern large-scale production and the continuous advancement of science and technology, mechanical equipment is developing in the direction of large-scale, high-speed, precision, continuous operation and complex structure. On-line monitoring of accumulators and hydraulic equipment is an important measure to ensure their safe, stable, long-term, full-load, high-performance, high-precision, and low-cost operation. The Intelligent Maintenance System (IMS) provides intelligent tools for accumulator manufacturing companies to monitor the operating status of their accumulators through the Internet or wireless communication systems. The most important function in the IMS is the pre-diagnosis capability. By evaluating the performance degradation of the accumulator, a more reasonable pre-reaction maintenance is given to the product, thereby reducing the damage and downtime of the accumulator, and eliminating unnecessary periodic maintenance activities.
